You don’t grow inside your comfort zone

Pushing yourself can be scary, however the rewards can be monumental. Learning how to set goals and push yourself is the beginning of the road to achievement.

How many of you have read this heading and rolled your eyes? Come on, admit it. We tend to have a minor sphincter retraction when we think of doing things we are not comfortable with. I know I have!

Lots of people are comfortable with their lives and that is fantastic, however if you feel you are not one of these, then I urge you to take a good hard look at yourself. Before you read on, grab a pen and some paper.

What do you want from life? What does it look like? What makes you happy? A new career, a hobby you are passionate about, a new love, spicing up your current relationship, buying a house, losing weight, better behaving children, whatever it is, start writing a list. Once this is done, sit back and have a read. Is this achievable? Is this you? When I say ‘achievable’ I mean can you achieve each item in your list within a reasonable time frame? Only you know who you are. If you are thinking of becoming an Olympic javelin champion when you have never picked up or seen a javelin in your lifetime, then I would highly suggest you contact you psychologist to book in for a mental health check.

How are you going to achieve this? Baby steps…Rome was not built in a day and frankly, they had to start somewhere! Learning to breakdown your goals into smaller steps will help you to focus on smaller areas without becoming overwhelmed with the bigger picture. If you are unsure how to do this, use your networks and friends for suggestions. Otherwise, google it!

Through this process you will realise you do have what it takes and if you take a deep breath and break things down, you can achieve anything! And dare I say it, you have started to grow. Push yourself – you are worth it!
